City Announces Lineup for 2009 Concerts-In-The-Park Series
Popular Series Kicks Off Friday, June 11 at Central Park
The City of Santa Clarita's Concerts in the Park series is one of the most popular summertime traditions year after year. The 2009 talent lineup, complete with returning favorites and first-time bands, ensures that the hits will keep on coming. The concert series is free to attend and kicks off July 11 at Central Park, continuing every Saturday evening at 7 p.m. through August 29.
Concerts in the Park 2009 will showcase an impressive lineup comprised of popular tribute bands and performers from multiple genres. The Skinny Little Twits, one of California's premier Classic Rock and Dance bands, will be the first band to hit the stage this year. Performing on June 11, the band has opened for the likes of the Go Go's, Christopher Cross and "Weird Al" Yankovic.
"Concerts in the Park is one of the City's most celebrated summer traditions," said Mayor Frank Ferry. "The series allows local residents to relax and enjoy a night out with quality musical entertainment at a great venue- for free!"
The series continues with the greatest Led Zeppelin band going, Led Zepagain. The band, which has sold out shows at the House of Blues, The Galaxy Theater and more, will bring the sound of Led Zeppelin to life again on June 18. The Doo-Wah Riders are sure to please those who like a little twang in their music when they take the stage the following week on July 25. For two decades, the band has opened for the likes of Garth Brooks, George Strait, Alabama and Faith Hill.
Another high-energy band, the SCV All Stars, is made up of the some of the community's best A-list musical talent. Performing a number of tribute songs from a wide variety of genres on August 1, the band is sure to give an all-star performance to remember.
For those looking to dance to some great music straight from the islands, the City will present Urban Dread on August 8. One of L.A.'s most danceable reggae bands, Urban Dread is a must-see that has been performing its uplifting brand of reggae music for more than 20 years.
The great music doesn't stop there, though. On August 15, Don't Stop Believing will perform the sounds of Journey with soaring vocals and searing guitar riffs and, on August 22nd, Lisa Haley and the Zydecats will perform strong zydeco tunes in the spirit of Jazz, Folk, Rock and Blues that attracts fans internationally.
The explosive summer concert series culminates with the return of one of Concerts in the Park's most popular performers, Boogie Knights. Head over to Central Park on August 29 for one of the greatest disco revival shows in the world as Boogie Knights brings the 2009 series to a groovy close.
Central Park is located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road and all concerts begin at 7 p.m. For more information on the 2009 Concerts in the Park series, please contact the City's Arts and Events office at (661) 286-4018 or visit www.santa-clarita.com/concerts.
