Trash Criminals' Chances with Safe Shred, E-Waste and MedDrop Day
Safely Dispose E-Waste, Documents, Medicine for Free
The City of Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department invite residents to participate in the Safe Shred, E-Waste and MedDrop Day, held on April 25 from 9 a.m. - 3p.m. at College of the Canyons. The event is a one-stop-shop for residents to safely discard sensitive materials for free.
Bring empty binders, unwanted or expired credit cards and more to be safely destroyed by Confidential Data Destruction. Each participant may bring up to five boxes of personal papers of any kind, complete with staples and paper clips, to be shredded for free.
"Identity theft is one of America's fastest-growing crimes and it is largely up to us to protect ourselves from these criminals," said Councilmember Bob Kellar. "With the Safe Shred, E-Waste and MedDrop Day, residents can get ahead of the game and proactively protect themselves from fraud."
Electronic items and appliances (E-waste) will also be disposed of free of charge at the event. Residents will be able to dispose of sensitive computer and office equipment, as well as consumer electronics and household appliances.
The Safe Medicine Disposal, or MedDrop, area will offer a secure place to submit prescription, over-the-counter and veterinary medication to be properly destroyed by the Sheriff's Department. Syringes will not be accepted.
College of the Canyons is located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road. For more information on the Safe Shred, E-Waste and MedDrop Day, please contact Casey Bingham, Project Technician for the City's Environmental Services Division, at (661) 286-4039 or visit santa-clarita.com.
