Santa Clarita Restaurants Host Nightly Amgen Viewing Parties
Locals Invited to Watch Daily Race Coverage at Salt Creek Grille and Vines
The Amgen Tour of California is less than two weeks from its third consecutive year in the City of Santa Clarita. To celebrate the arrival of the world's best professional cyclists, including the return of the legendary Lance Armstrong, Salt Creek Grille and Vines Restaurant & Bar at Hyatt Valencia are hosting viewing parties the week leading up to the race's Stage 7 start in Santa Clarita, which takes place on Saturday, February 21. From Monday, February 16 through Friday, February 20, residents are encouraged to enjoy a recap of the day's race as it makes its way through California, while enjoying food and drink specialties. Coverage of day's race will broadcast on the Versus Network nightly from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
On Monday, February 16, Councilmember Bob Kellar and the Santa Clarita VELO's cyclists will be at Salt Creek Grille, raffling prizes and Amgen Tour of California memorabilia from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Then on Thursday, February 19, the local organizing committee for the race will be at Vines Restaurant & Bar, also raffling prizes and getting residents excited about the upcoming race.
"The Amgen Tour of California is an amazing event, and while it's the state's largest sporting event attracting millions of viewers, it's also about community and bringing people together. These viewing parties are a great way to capture the spirit of the race, gather with friends, and watch in anticipation as the Tour makes its way to Santa Clarita," said City of Santa Clarita Councilmember Bob Kellar.
The 2009 Amgen Tour of California is a Tour de France-style cycling road race recognized as the largest cycling event in America. Presented by AEG, the Tour challenges the world's top professional cycling teams to compete along a demanding 800-mile course across the state.
Interest and participation in the race has grown since its inception three years ago, and the 2009 Amgen Tour of California is expected to attract more than 1.6 million spectators throughout the nine-day challenge from February 14-22, 2009. The race visits 16 host cities for official stage starts and finishes and including: Sacramento, Davis (new city for 2009), Santa Rosa, Sausalito, Santa Cruz, San Jose, Modesto, Merced, Clovis, Visalia, Paso Robles, Solvang, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, Rancho Bernardo, and Escondido.
