The Recent Fires: How You Can Help Warm Your Neighbors
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Santa Clarita Valley has set a goal — to collect 600 gently used or new coats and jackets to help warm our 600 nearby neighbors who lost their homes in the recent Sylmar wildfires. Your donations of warm outerwear for all ages can be specifically targeted for fire victims.
Starting this Sunday, November 23, and on every Sunday through January 4, 2009, simply drop off coats and jackets at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall, anytime between 9:30 and 11:30 AM (Sunday mornings only, please). The UU of SCV church will do the rest. By serving as a collection team for the garments, congregation members will be able to track their progress toward the church's goal of warming at least 600 homes.
The church will be making regular deliveries to the Goodwill, and through that organization's partnership with The American Red Cross, fire victims will receive a voucher to spend on a coat or jacket at the Goodwill store in Sylmar. Donors will be furnished with a charitable donation receipt from the church, if desired. For further information, contact UU of SCV at (661) 254-7866.
Unitarian Universalists (UU's) draw upon the teachings of many of the world's faiths to help individuals build their own theology. Services are held each Sunday, 10:30 AM, at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., in Newhall. For directions and further information, visit www.UUofSCV.org.
