Friday, October 10, 2008
College of the Canyons

Did you know?
• California accounts for 20% of our nations high tech jobs
• Only 22% of California jobs require a bachelors degree or higher
• 83% of two-year college graduates have same annual earnings as four-year college graduates

Career Technical Education Awareness Day will present educators with information and resources on the value of providing technical career opportunities for their students.

You can help!
We are looking for business professionals who will share their career success stories with teachers, counselors, and school administrators on October 10th. Starting at 9am we will offer breakout sessions with employer panels representing various technical fields. As a panelist, you will be asked questions such as:
• What skills are required for your current position or for entry into your field?
• Did you learn these skills in school or through work experience?
• Why do you think students should pursue this type of career?

To participate, please contact Patrick Backes by email at: patrick.backes@canyons.edu or by phone at: (661) 362-5479. Breakout sessions will run as follows:
• Breakout Session 1: 9:00 - 9:50 a.m.
• Breakout Session 2: 10:00 - 10:50 a.m.
• Breakout Session 3: 11:00 -11:50 a.m.

We thank you for your support of career technical education and career opportunities! We look forward to seeing you on October 10th! Please feel free to contact me via e-mail or phone with any questions.
