SCV Business Helps Sheriff's Youth Program
Local Business Holds Fundraiser to Benefit SCV Sheriff's Youth Explorer Program
In celebrating their one year anniversary in the City of Santa Clarita, Steve Youlios, the owner and operator of Jersey Mike's Subs, located in the Bouquet Center at 26510 Bouquet Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, opted to hold a fundraising event to benefit the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Explorer Program.
In a gesture of goodwill, Steve said he wanted to give back to the community that has been so good to him in his first year of operation. He did just that on Friday, February 27, 2009. Steve and all the Jersey Mike's employees advertised an offer good for one free sub sandwich with every donation to Santa Clarita Sheriff's Explorer Program - Post #631.
During the all-day event hundreds of customers, Sheriff's Explorers, community leaders, and Sheriff's personnel visited the sandwich shop. Steve and his employees made 3 sandwiches every two minutes for 11 hours. When the event was over and the exhausted employees closed the doors, the generous residents of the Santa Clarita Valley and Jersey Mike's had raised more than $1,700.00 for the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Explorer Program.
The Law Enforcement Explorer Program in the Santa Clarita Valley is a Sheriff's Department youth oriented volunteer program affiliated with the offices of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and Learning for Life. Its primary purpose is to provide, through actual experience, a means by which young men and women, ages 14 to 21, may determine if they would like to pursue a career in law enforcement. Secondly, the program also provides the Sheriff's Department with additional human resources and it opens an important avenue of understanding with an energetic, concerned society of young people. Sheriff's Explorers help out with major events in the Santa Clarita Valley throughout the year.
For more information on the program or becoming a Sheriff's Explorer, visit the following link: Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Explorer Program.
If you were unable to attend the event, but would still like to donate to your Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Explorer Program, stop by the station, call or e-mail Deputy Laurie Baylis at (661) 799-5164 or Sergeant Gregg Lewison at (661) 799-5158 or mail correspondence to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station: Attention Sergeant Gregg Lewison at 23740 W.
