Antonovich Casts Vote of No Confidence for Ansaldo Breda as MTA Railcar Manufacturer
LOS ANGELES COUNTY — Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich cast the lone "no" vote — with Santa Monica City Councilwoman Pam O'Connor abstaining — on the MTA Board motion to extend the MTA's decision-making period to consider exercising options with Ansaldo Breda for 100 new rail cars. Antonovich had called for MTA to terminate the Breda options and immediately release a new 'Request for Proposals' (RFP) for an upgraded contract emphasizing local job creation and accountability.
"With seven extensions, Breda failed to deliver the rail cars as promised — and those that were delivered were 6000 pounds overweight and lacked sufficient interior space.
The Board had a choice between issuing a new RFP in a buyer's market and maximizing County tax dollars, or giving an unreliable contractor more time to make excuses. The Board made the wrong choice and in two months we will be back to square one, faced with the same decision to terminate Breda's options and solicit a new contract."
