County Imposes Residency and Loitering Restrictions on Registered Sex Offenders
LOS ANGELES COUNTY — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Supervisor Antonovich's motion to impose stringent residency and loitering restrictions on registered sex offenders in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
"The additional restrictions will strengthen those mandated by the State of California. Reducing the potential dangers associated with multiple registered sex offenders living near families and places where children frequently gather is our priority," said Antonovich.
A strong advocate of placing public safety above pseudo-rights of sex predators, Antonovich initiated the County's innovative on-line Sex Offender Locator Map in 2002 to empower citizens to see if sex offenders are living in their communities. The website's success led to its use as the model for the State's Megan's Law website, which can be viewed at http://www.meganslaw.ca.gov.
There are approximately 1,438 registered sex offenders in the unincorporated areas of the County, 397 of these registered sex offenders are on parole.
